Opening Speech and Prayer at the Bukbu English Worship Service, 2004. 6. 27 (by C. Koo)

Good Afternoon, everyone. It is time for us to begin our today\’s English Worship Service. I warmly welcome all of you. I hope that you have really good and meaningful time through the service.
During the last week, there have been some sad and shocking news. One Korean citizen was hold as a hostage around 20 days and killed very brutally in Iraq by a certain violent group as the case of an American citizen few weeks ago. I was shocked again. All the world people including Korean were shocked. Very brutal killings and threats to the hostages are continuing in Iraq. I hope that the killings and the war have to be stopped as soon as possible. We all have to pray for the complicated issue.
As we know, there are so many people who do not know our Lord Jesus Christ. So many people are worshiping idols and certain doctrines. For many times, they consciously or unconsciously oppress other people with their own behalf or with extreme prejudices.
In this world now, there are so many brothers and sisters who are suffering from prejudice, depressions, tortures, and wars. We have to pray for them. We have to pray for peaceful lives of all the people.
All of us are slaves to sin and spiritually dead, unless we have been born again. We can be set free from the sin by asking Jesus Christ to become our Lord. Unlike those who deny or do not know God\’s existence, we Christians agrees the Psalm 119; 72, \”The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver\”. We church members have to study scripture, embrace its teachings, and obediently live out its truth. As we try to become like Him, we will feel that our life is very bright and shining.

Let\’s pray. Heavenly Father. We want to thank You that You provide us such a beautiful place to praise You and worship You together. Through the service, we want to open our hearts, confess our sins, and sincerely share your words together.
Father, now in this world evil prospers. Wars, killings and disputes are continuous in the various places in this world. We are frequently controlled by evil ways. We are imprisoned by our sins. Father, help us to admit that we are sinners. Father, show us the way to set us free. Show the way to the aliens who do not know You. We want to believe in Jesus for forgiveness. We want to learn to be humble. We want to learn to take away our sinful prides.
Father, give me the courage to do what is right. Help me to be honest and true in all that I say and all that I do. I always want to make Your will my choice. Father, I want to serious understand that the only way to overcome all these falsehoods and temptations that I face is just to focus on the Lord, who strengthens me by his grace.
Father, we church members sincerely want to pray for the peaceful solutions of war in Iraq. We want to pray for civilian victims over there to be released without any problems. We also pray for the neighbors who do not know you and who are suffering from illness, poverty, economic hardships, and other various difficulties.
We want to pray for that all the people in this world find comforts and rejoice in your salvation. When facing even extreme trobles and difficulties, we hope that all the people in this world rely on You Jesus Christ. We want to lay our burdens at Your feet, and we want to find our inner peaces from You.
Thank you Father, you send us today\’s preacher Eric Enlaw. Through his speech, we want to learn to hear Your voice. We all want to meet you, and understand your love for us. We prayed in the name of Jesus, A-men.
